We appreciate all of our volunteer coaches here at PSC! Just as parents and coaches do for their children, PSC wants to help coaches grow and develop to be the best they can be. We encourage you to take a look at the various coaching education resources we provide.

Learn about characteristics of the children in your age group, find out how to structure a practice plan, study techniques and tactics, and take courses online or in person to become a licensed coach.

The licensing pathway now consists of Grassroots (GR) courses at the beginning. GR options vary in online and in-person versions of 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 instruction.

The pathway prerequisites to the D course are as follows:

(2a) Have completed the old E license . . . OR (2b) Have completed the old F license, complete the new 11v11 in-person license, and complete one other in-person license . . . OR (2c) Complete the 11v11 in-person license, complete one other in-person license, and complete one online course on 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, or 11v11.

The pathway from the D license onward remains similar to before, but registration for courses across the states will be hosted with other resources on learning.ussoccer.com.

PSC LICENSING NOTES

In order to improve the quality of soccer in Portland, we must stress the importance of coaching education for our league. As of now, there is no license requirement at the D4 (recreational) level. However, we encourage coaches to take the free Introduction to Grassroots Coaching course and other in-person and online courses, so that we may improve quality of play in all levels and age groups.
